Little things

I've been playing around with some little things. This is collaged and painted paper. I've also been playing around with some embroidery. The next challenge is to combine the two. I have some ideas about that.

I've also been doing some little tasks. Like weeding out the 8 gajillion pounds of clothes I moved into this house 4.5 years ago and promptly never wore again. And I've been to the recycling center twice today. The second time I remembered to take a picture of this big collage they have hanging from the ceiling. It's made of recycled stuff. Cool, huh?

The recycling center is on the wrong side of the tracks. And I got stuck for a minute on my second trip. But I'm taking time to appreciate little things. Like sunshine, tulips poking up in the yard, how sparkly my car looks since I went through the carwash on Wednesday. And this opportunity to photoblog while I waited to get back across the tracks.

Great Victories

Mighty Adventure Cat Stalks Dangerous Bumblebee. 21" by 20". 2007.

Whew! It REALLY hasn't been the greatest couple of months around here. It's actually been among the worst. So it feels like a major accomplishment to get this little quilt finished, sleeved, labeled, de-cat-haired, photographed and ready to deliver for the Imagination Unleashed contemporary quilt show in Spokane this Saturday. This sucker has about 457 French knots, most added in the last 3 days. (OK, I made up that number, but there's a LOT of French knots!) My poor little fingers are sore, but I think the results were worth it.

Stripe-y goodness

Look! I'm alive and creating! (synonyms? I think so...) I figured out how to purl! And how to make yummy stripes!

Speaking of yummy stripes, I'm completely in love with the ripple blanket that Alicia at Posie Gets Cozy is making. Every time she posts a picture I want to go down to the garage and pull out the yarn stash. Except that my yarn stash does not contain those yummy colors Alicia's using. And my yarn stash is from back in the day when most craft stores offered a choice between icky scratchy acrylic and nasty scratchy acrylic. And I need another project like I need another hole in my head. So...I'll just keep admiring Alicia's ripple-y goodness.

I have been puttering around at one crafty thing or another all weekend. There's even been quilting:

I've promised a new piece for Sew Uniquely You's contemporary quilt show March 10, so I finally got busy quilting and embellishing a fused top that's been hanging around for a while. Hopefully I've worked up enough momentum to keep up with the making. I missed it.

It's been months since I posted a silly cat photo...

So here's the little guy checking out the frozen tundra. He's an indoor kitty who goes out in the morning to get the paper and he's NOT supposed to cross the street, but this was just too funny and I couldn't resist snapping a photo before I grabbed him and threw him back in the house.

Thank you so much to the folks who have left such kind and supportive comments this last month. I'm still not creating much (although I did learn to knit - scarves are nice and mindless). I have ideas and I think about making things but I just don't have a lot of gumption these days. Hopefully soon, and in the meantime, well, I'm getting a lot of episodes of Alias watched.

Jack Frost strikes again

We had a spectacular frost Thursday night. This one left long fuzzy spikes of frost on everything:

A Post about Not Posting

I'm going through some difficult and painful stuff in my personal life at the moment, thus the lack of quiltiness and other assorted craftiness here lately. I am starting to do a bit of making again, but mostly of the mindless sort at the moment. I am hopeful that I will be able to be creative again soon...I have a feeling it would be good for me on several levels. I'll post pictures of anything that turns out cool. Or even just anything that turns out.

Holiday Colors

This is my current favorite holiday color combination. Love the cream and the soft pink and maybe a touch of gold. If I were going to decorate, I might use these colors. Instead I'm just making these little cards and ornaments. Yesterday someone at work asked if the ornament was a Christmas cookie. Sorta looks like it, yes?

This combo is running a close second. I had to run out to Ben Franklin to buy these after an idea for a little Christmas-y quilt popped into my head. A quilt I have no intention of even trying to finish before Christmas, so don't even ask. A fun little quilt that I will work on in January because it's fun and the colors make me happy.

Here's another possibility that's intriguing. Wouldn't a mix of these colors make a pretty pile of packages? (as well as some nice alliteration?)
